Raspberry PI Zero madness

Lol, today I got a message from a friend about Raspberry PI Zero. Wow, a computer for 5USD? Unfortunately I got informed a bit late and could just see the last pieces be sold, so I couldn’t buy one. I wonder what the initial stocks actually were…

It’s also hard to tell if the 5USD units weren’t just “giveaways” for marketing as the official price on the farnell is 16EUR (without tax), but we will see that as the stocks are replenished…

The marketing around RPI Zero also seems to interenstingly coincide with the C.H.I.P. computer which will open sales on monday. I guess CHIP will be much better bang for the buck, but there are also many applications where RPI Zero would work as well…

Lol, maybe too much ranting from me because I was to late to get one ๐Ÿ™‚ Nevertheless, if any of the two companies continue to manufacture and sell their boards, there are surely quite a few companies that would just love a SBC like that at that price tag, even with all the quirks of it ๐Ÿ˜‰

PS: The only thing that I really see is prohibiting the use of such SBC-s in industry is probably the unknowns of their availability and part longeivity (especially as some are using already obsolete parts)…
